Hurghada is ideal for those who enjoy soaking up the sunshine as well as being active, especially underwater as there are many reefs and World War II wrecks waiting to be explored. Being the second largest town in the Red Sea and to make sure you make the most of your holiday we have listed below some facts that you will find handy as we know you will be very busy visiting the must-see historical sites, the warren of narrow streets in the old town of El Daha and tasting the local cuisine on one of the glitzy marina restaurants.

White Toyota mini vans called micro bus have established routes. They are easy to use, you just flag them down and they stop wherever needed. Tell the driver your required destination before getting in. You will be able to arrange a taxi in resort however we would suggest getting a price before setting off and having the correct change to avoid any confusion at the end of the journey.

  • As a British citizen, you will need a valid passport and a visa to enter Hurghada. You can get your visa at the airport when you arrive or from the Egyptian Consulate. For further information please visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/egypt/entry-requirements.
  • Hurghada is 2 hours ahead of UK time (GMT).
  • The currency used is the Egyptian pound.
  • The language spoken is Arabic
  • Resorts will be busy after Ramadan as Egyptian families will go away to celebrate. Ramadan is a sacred month when Muslims fast from dawn until sunset. Ramadan for the year 2021 starts on the evening of Monday, the 12th April lasting 30 days and ending at sundown on Tuesday the 11th of May.
  • If you are up for a challenge you could attend Hurghada’s International Festival, this 12 day event in February features a triathlon followed by a 75km off-road run between the sea and the mountains.
  • The Sights

To the North you will find the historic old town, El Daha, with its narrow streets, souks and coffee shops where you get a real taste of traditional Egyptian life. Travel south to Sekalla for a more modern feel enjoying the fantastic selection of shops by day before moving onto cocktails and dinner in one of the many beachside venues by night. The perfect atmosphere for your getaway!

  • Oceanfront

Ideal for anyone looking to enjoy water-based activities, Hurghada boasts mile upon mile of stunning coastline perfect for kiteboarding or windsurfing, and an underwater adventure paradise for enthusiastic divers. Children will love paddling here as the soft, warm sand safely shelves gently into the sparkling sea. The marina offers shops, restaurants, and bars.
